Wire cages solve a storage problem that San Francisco buildings have in quantity: many units, little space, and a garage or basement shared by everyone. We build chain link and welded wire enclosures for tenant storage lockers, bicycle rooms, parcel and stock rooms, tool cribs and equipment. Each one is made to the space, with framed doors, hasps or lock sets, and partitions that can be extended later.
Indoor work is different from fence work. Posts are anchored to the slab instead of dug in, panels are sized to come in through a garage door or down a stair, and the layout has to leave sprinkler heads, lights, drains, electrical panels and exit paths clear. Ask the building's manager where the fire department and the insurer want clearances kept. Wire mesh is the usual choice because sprinklers and light work through it and security staff can see inside.
Outdoors and on roofs, enclosures protect mechanical units, generators, gas meters and antennas from tampering. Rooftop frames attach to curbs or structure with details approved by the building's engineer, because a roof membrane must not be pierced casually. Near the ocean and the bay, use galvanized or coated mesh and frames. For every job we measure on site, confirm door swings and lock types with you, and give a written quote.
Cages & enclosures in San Francisco: common questions
Can storage cages be added to an existing apartment garage?
Usually, yes. Cages are built to fit along walls or at the heads of parking stalls without reducing required parking or blocking exits. The building owner should confirm the layout with their insurer and, where needed, the city before we install.
Chain link or welded wire for an indoor cage?
Both work. Welded wire panels look neater, are harder to cut quietly and go up fast in modular sizes. Chain link costs less and adapts easily to odd spaces and pipes. We show you both for your room.
Do the cages need a ceiling?
If the wall panels stop short of the ceiling, a wire top keeps people from climbing over. A mesh top also keeps sprinklers effective, which a solid lid would not. We recommend one wherever the gap above is big enough to get through.
