Repair when the damage is in one area and the posts are firm. Replace when repairs come to about half the cost of a new fence or most posts are rotted.
Who pays for a fence between neighbors?
California presumes neighbors share the reasonable cost of a boundary fence equally, after 30 days' written notice (Civil Code section 841).
